What is your favourite Single Origin coffee bean?
Mine at the moment is the old favourite Yirgacheffe. Better than Bali methinks. However Bali indonesian is very smooth. Yirg' better though... I love to hear comments from the united Barista community on that?

Had a great Sidamo a couple days ago at Backporch Coffee Roasters. Raspberry, coconut, chocolate ... at that moment.
Also had stumptown El Salv. kilimanjaro. These are my favorite so far.

Cool bud thanks for that, Yeah I have heard about Stumptown in a book I have read recently. We dont have it here. But I do like the sound of Kiilimanjaro. Sounds brilliant. Good elevation!

Ethiopia Beloya! It's a region within Yirg. Absolutely my favorite coffee that I have ever had. The huckleberry, blueberry, and faint spices are present through out the cup. My favorite selections are 8 from PT's, and 12 from Roastmasters. Both are of divine origin, so that's not really fair to the other coffees of the world. :-)

My all time memorable favorite is/was Island of Saint Helena Napoleon Estate from 8 years ago. Second would be Panama Esmeralda Gesha '07 (mixed farm arean and picking lot). Third Wood's Estate Kona 5 years ago. And fourth all time favorite Jamaica Blue Mountain Old Tavern from 7 years ago IIRC. What these all had in common was stellar acidity, great body and balance combined with velvety smooth mouthfeel with phenomenal lingers.
Coffees like the Ultimate Strawberry Bomb Idido Misty Valley of 3 years ago or Astronomic Blueberry Blast of Harrar Lot 30 of 4 years ago are totally different animals.
In reality as a roaster, cafe owner and barista I get asked which is my favorite or which is the best coffee you have all the time. I like to answer with a question like do you have children, which one do you love most? There are many stellar coffees with very different cup characters, each unique in their own right.

Stunning descriptive comment man. Thanks so much. Will look into the ones you mention. You obviously have a well honed palate. I am spending a day at a roastery on Thursday this week and I am really looking forward to cupping twice a day in between roasting a few batches.

Kenya Malimbe does wonders for me. Fruity and sharp like a clean cognac around a warm toasty campfire in my mouth.
I can definitely see myself making some signature drinks out of this SO. By the way Steve, love your atmosphere over at La Galette. ;)

It isn't open yet, but I'll be located at the Northbridge Piazza come this Nov-Dec, once everything is fitted out. :D Next time I stop by La Galette I'll introduce myself, it's always a pleasure to meet passionate people in the industry, especially in Perth. :)

My general favorite is Celebes followed by Sumatra. I don't know of any specific farms or regions of those, but the ones I've had are wonderful.
Once, my old boss roasted this batch of Tanzanian that just blew us all away. It smelled like butter and caramel when ground and brewed. It tasted like butter and caramel, too! That was several years ago, but I'll never forget it. All the baristas at all our stores were just clamoring for the stuff. Sadly, he was not able to reproduce those results next time around. The next ones were still good but more typical of that region (more wine, fruits, acidity). Ahh, that wiley, elusive coffee bean...

I recently had a Tanzanian Peaberry roasted by BX's own James Spano of Cup to Cup Coffee Roasters that was probably the best-tasting brew I have ever had. My coworkers loved it, too. He also provided me with a Kenya French Missional that was nearly as good. I encourage you to check him out.

Playing favorites is so hard to do... We have a Sumatra, Aceh Gold, which presents some of the best characteristics of any indo I've tasted. Cedar and Bergamot acidity, Chocolate in the body and and an extremely long, winey finish. Also a favorite of mine has been the 08 crop of Kenya from the Rungeto Coop (Kirinyaga), Carmel and Maple Syrup, plum tomatoes and a whole new meaning of "dances on your tongue". As far as Latins go, I'm really excited about our Guatemala from the Asobagri Coop (HueHue), White and Black Pepper up front and a soft brown sugar finish. All wonderful coffees, favorites of the day. I also just had the privilege of tasting Intelli's Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha, I blogged about it here: http://banditthebarista.blogspot.com/ Phenomenal coffee, not sure it's worth the price point, but fun to try.

I'll agree about the HueHue Asobagri. This is currently one of our favorite offerings. I am actually enjoying a cup as I type this. This coffee is very interesting as it is very delicate and sweet but complex at the same time. A very beautiful coffee.
Another one of my favorites right now is our Bali Blue moon. Oh man is this sweet coffee, very syrupy and full of chocolate, just enough spice to keep it interesting and a nutty, lingering aftertaste. Much cleaner than other Indo's.
