i need your opinion on this: if someone were to make a big hygienic mistake, would that lead to serious loss of points (almost as a sanction to not let him pass the heats)??

could a hygienic mistake justify marking a 0 (on 6) for the "judge's overall impression" box?

i'm really curious about your opinions on this. it would be great if some certified judges could comment! thanks!

I'm starting to think about competition for next year, and I'm a bit curious as to how competitors developed their blends (if they didn't use the increasingly popular SO spro)? I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to begin.
Greetings fellow volunteers, judges, competitors, et al for USBC 2009. I'm starting this discussion for anyone who needs anything to compete. One of the best things about NERBC/MARBC was the sense of community and sharing. I could not have done it without the help of fellow competitors, judges, volunteers (and their grinders).
I'm traveling from CT but used to live in Portland, so, if you have questions about the city feel free to ask someone here (MM?), if you want to share equipment, or, don't know where to get something, ask again, if you want to know how easy it is to get from the Albina Press to Coffeehouse NW and back to Stumptown, just ask.
I'm preparing for my first competition, I know how important prep time is, but I'm not really sure of my limits or what's most important. If someone could spare some specifics that'd be great, thanks!
