What is your most personally lusted after espresso machine??
Just as the above title states. If you could have any espresso machine for yourself right now, which one would it be and why.
Below is the one I've had my eye on for a couple months now...
^that's a refurbished 1950's Conti Empress lever from Orphan Espresso. Almost every day I visit their site just to ogle over it one more time, and to see if anyone's bought it yet.
Personally I think their asking price is a bit extreme, even after it was dropped a whole thousand bucks. If it were a Faema Mercurio from the same time period then yeah, I think it could definitely fetch what their asking... hey maybe even then some. Btw I predict that it'll end up selling for just shy of two grand.

Barry Hill, owner of La Marzocco GS-1 Solenoid Single Group that's up for sale chiming in... It's a 1989 machine. It was originally given (!!!) to Dave Schomer by Kent Bakke of La Marzocco Seattle when David was modifying all his equipment to PID control around the turn of the century. His Mistrals and Lineas and this machine were all recipients of his electronic conclusions regarding temperature control. This one and his prototype experimental Linea that is still in his roasting warehouse have the addition of the pre-heat tank to feed the brew boiler which "softens" the thermal excursions that the PID loop must deal with while obtaining excellent temperature stability.
A few weeks ago I was talking with Kent about the GS-1 series and he told me a heart-breaking story regarding the accidental dismissal to recycling of a pallet containing enough parts to construct several complete GS-1 units. This was many years ago, but I think I heard Kent's voice crack as he told me the story and he really didn't want to linger on the subject for long. Great sadness.
This is an unusual GS-1 that has led an easy life near the center of the heart of much innovation in specialty coffee.

I worked on a linea and quite frankly it's an absolute battleship, when I get to the stage of buying a machine there's only one choice for me!!!! i'd love to have a go on a slayer but i cant imagine working with one; when you have to make a routine grind change on a busy day do you have to change/tinker your pressure profiling too? how long does it take?
That's why i love the linea - on/off/steam/water. plus it just looks hot.
