While you have it apart, you might consider replacing the existing switch screws with slightly shorter ones that won't require that many washers. Just match the threads and get the next length down. Or you can just ignore it.

You can get a rotary switch without the timer. It is a simple on/off. The washers shouldn't cause a problem. The knob doesn't need to be pressed all the way down. Even without the washers if you push the switch all the way down it will still rub against the screw heads. Just lift if off the face a little. If the knob is loose then it is just worn and time for a new one. Let me know if you want to replace the switch. I can get you the part number and/or send you one.<br />
