We've have a very successful fan page, but that does not mean it brings in lots of money. It is successful because it puts your name in front of social coffee lovers and it helps spread the buzz. It is not cheap to build a community though. There's the slow free way of course (discussed above). But if you wish to speed things up, you should use FB ads.
I hope this helps.
Short answer is yes. Long answer is yes and I hope to take a lecture / class from Matt the founder of this site at he SCAA convention in Anihiem Ca. next month. His lecture will have to do with Network marketing.
A very serious "new wave" in marketing. Fairly new but with huge potential. The use and growth of FaceBook have been astronomical especially with certain demographics. Watch this marketing tool and get on board asap Cindy.
Do not think of it so much as conventional advertising. It is way more than that. Think twitter (although I don't use it, yet? ) or real time information at your and your customers finger tips. When it comes to marketing and advertising try and keep your mind outside of the box, think cutting edge not cash till dollars today.
I opened a Facebook account and found tons of friends from High school, college and old jobs and within a few months had over 1000 friends and people always come to vist me at my spot. I was going to advertise like yourself but found just networking within the contacts I made and spending the time to promote the shop that way worked great. And it was FREE.

In other marketing words, get your name and services out there any way you can. There are no secrets here. People will pay for a quality coffee product/service especially when they see up front and personal how much passion you put into what you love. Don't be afraid to charge enough to float your boat. Times are tough right now. I'm sure I don't need to bring that up on this list. We are all in the same boat here.
Hang in there. I'm hanging right next to ya.
Cindy,
If you have the spare time to develop a facebook page and post updates at least every few days then I would say there is no downside.

As for other advertising, since you are just getting started things will be slow. Keep doing the things you are doing, continue to look for other interesting things to do along those lines. However do not be afraid to charge for at least your expenses when doing work for charity events, they will almost always understand that you can give away your time…

However do not be afraid to charge for at least your expenses when doing work for charity events, they will almost always understand that you can give away your time but you just cant afford to give away any product.

I would also look into joining a local chamber of commerce, if you have some cash to spend a good marketing firm which specializes in your local area might be a good investment.

Good luck and have fun!
