What espresso machine would you buy with a £500 budget?

Hi all,

I recently wrote a blog post showing my top espresso machines under £500. My top pics were the delonghi dedica, sage bambino, sage duo temp pro and the gaggia classic.

It would be great to hear your opinions on what home espresso machine you would buy with a £500 budget? I'm sure there are many machines that I didn't include which are well worthy of a mention.

Details:

This 3-Group Synesso Cyncra was perfect for us in our medium volume coffee shop. Beautiful shots, beautiful milk, beautiful machine. The Cyncra was used and lovingly maintained for nine years, has been in storage for a year, and is due for some good maintenance, including descaling. It was still making delicious drinks for us when we took it out of service, though we were aware of a few issues:

The left steam wand was not usable at the time due to scale buildup (we rarely used the left wand... our bad!).

The center grouphead lever was not sticking in the left/"full on" position, so we would manually hold it during the shot. Our tech advisor said it just needed a new spring (or something like that). I imagine that could probably be confirmed with Synesso Tech Support.

The electronics control box mount was a little loose and needed the mounting screw/connection tightened up. If the control box was manually jiggled, the fail safe would cut off the power (happened twice).

Regular wear and tear, some scuffs, but no major dings or damage. Machine still looks very nice. Probably due for new "easy replaceables" (gaskets, screens, baskets, etc.).

I'm in the process of trying to open up a coffee shop in Norfolk, Virginia with my fiance, her brother, and their dad, and we're currently in the equipment gathering stage of everything. We don't have an exorbitant budget, so we're trying to find stuff as cheap as possible without sacrificing quality, since coffee is going to be the main focus of the shop, so we want to make sure we're doing that as well as possibly can. I've previously worked on a La Marzocco Strada, so that's where I've focused my search in terms of espresso machines, but I'm open to hearing other suggestions. If anyone knows of where we might be able to get a machine, grinders, and dining ware (mugs and plates and such) for a reasonable price, or has any there in the process of selling, let me know.
Hello Friends!

We serve many loose-leaf teas at my shop, and are looking to upgrade our hot water dispenser to one that can automatically dispense at least 3 temperatures for each specific need. We are currently looking at the Fetco HWD TOD. Has anyone encountered anything similar to this from another manufacturer?

Cylinder or Probe style?tag:www.baristaexchange.com,2013-10-31:1688216:Topic:14915042013-10-31T19:27:22.562ZChad Kimmhttps://www.baristaexchange.com/profile/ChadKimm

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with moisture meters? I've used the cylinder style in the past with good results but wanted to compare accuracy with the probe style.

The probe style models are generally half the price, so economics come in to play.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Thank you,
