We started small, working on pieces for us or for our close friends. Soon we discovered that spare parts for espresso machines, especially for the vintage ones, are not so easy to find. This lack of spare parts turned into an opportunity since we figured that manufacturing them would make things a lot easier for us and for all the vintage espresso machines passionate out there. That is how, in almost two years time, Brooks Espresso Machines came to be.
At the present time, we work with pleasure on manufacturing spare parts, restoring vintage espresso machines and meeting people that share the same values and passion as us from all over the world. At the end of the day, we are happy that in some corner of the world, somebody is drinking.

I'm considering picking up a pair of gloves to protect my hands at work. I'm beginning to get the calluses on my fingers. Not usually a problem, however one got dry and cracked open and stung like a never ending paper cut. Again, small problem but if you've had this happen, it's rather distracting when I'm trying to pump out drinks.

So what now. A glove? I use open ended gloves to ride my bicycle and I feel like they'll work well on the bar. I think one of those will work great, but they're padded and meant for handle bar contact.

Hey everybody, I hope you could help me out. I am looking to buy a scale to use for measuring the brewing parameters for espresso (Grams into portafilter, mL/grams out, volume etc). What's a good affordable scale that y'all recommend that consistently measures accurately? What are you currently using? I've tried using a Jennings but it does a poor job for that purpose. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Barista exchange,

I am brewing an espresso blend equal parts brazil, El Salvador, and Papua New Guinea. When it is pulling right it has bright, citrus tones throughout with a deep spicy body that finishes with a coca and lingers. Usually I find that taste from 18.5g in, 32-36g out with an extraction time of around 25 seconds. Obviously this changes daily, and with every bag, and every shot; as is the natural product of working with organic plant matter. Anyway, the problem I am having is…

Obviously this changes daily, and with every bag, and every shot; as is the natural product of working with organic plant matter. Anyway, the problem I am having is this: once every few weeks the grinder will make loud crunching noises as it grinds, and from that point on everything seems to be extremely inconsistent. I weigh the dose for every shot, and after the anomaly with the grinder the espresso seems to be doing whatever it feels like. Has anyone experienced this before? Or have a theory as to possible causes? Or am I totally losing my mind?
I've been recently doing a lot of research in order to get the best overall commercial espresso machine..

I was fond of the Elektra Aletta (http://www.elektrasrl.com/aletta.php) and Belle Epoque Verticale (http://www.elektrasrl.com/belle_epoque.php.) Beautiful machines.

Whilst I found very little literature in terms of reviews, I was very convinced. Slowly I learned about the scarcity of spare parts and that the company would only sell to distributor, which my region lacked.

I moved my efforts to the Strada EP, which then I learned had its issues, such as the difficulty of use and in maintaining consistency even when the pressure profiles were stored (very important) and so forth. I got discouraged when I learned about the complications that may even have a destructive nature to the startup. La Marzocco does have a distributor.

The Victoria Arduino Venus (http://www.victoriaarduino.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=17&Itemid=22&lang=en) is a beauty that resembles the Belle Epoque, a show piece for sure. Then I learned that there isn't a regional distributor for those either.

Firstly, how important is it to have a distributor? How difficult are these machines to service. What are the most important factors in looking for a machine? Verdicts according to experience?

Thank you.

Coffee Truck/Van Builder in California??tag:www.baristaexchange.com,2012-07-28:1688216:Topic:14010682012-07-28T07:59:05.733ZKirkhttps://www.baristaexchange.com/profile/KirkStevenson

Hey all:

I'm thinking of taking the next step (from just a web-based store) to a mobile coffee shop (truck or van).

I'm aware of companies that build them in other states, but have had a tough time locating a company IN California that builds them (with all of California's tricky food safety codes, etc.).

I'd be grateful to anyone who can point me to a company within California that builds custom coffee trucks/vans.

Thanks!
