When knocking old grounds out of my portafilter, the puck comes out too. Very irritating during a busy rush. Is there an adjustment that I can make to it to keep this from happening? I don't want to have to call my repair guy out to fix it, closest repair company is 150 miles away.

I'm guessing what you meant to imply is that when knocking the puck out the basket comes out as well, which means you need new portafilter springs, which cost like $2.50. You should be replacing the springs when you replace the gaskets, screens and baskets, which should be a couple times a year.

Yeah, what he said.
yeah look like little bent wires in the shape of a horseshoe when you take the basket out you can see them stuck in a little notch. super easy fix.
for a temporary fix until your new springs come in, you can try to bend them back and straighten out the parts of the spring that are supposed to be straight and not curved. this doesn't last forever, but it helps for a little while.
...and don't let it bounce. It'll take a minute to re-train yourself, but if you just let the pf land on the knock-box bar, and stay there, the puck'll fall out and rest, and when you lift the PF, the basket will come with it.
I would say the original pin spring may have already gone out with the puck. I do know that a client of mine wrapped heat resistant tape around the basket and literally jammed it into the portafilter. It should only be a temporary solution as getting the basket out of the filter to soak it overnight may be difficult!!
