Which would you prefer and why?
The reason I ask is I have already bought and paid for a 'cafe in a box' from crossroads... (well two actually). Our original order indicated K10 conical and when the receipt was sent it showed a Zip... I have confirmation via e-mail that we will receive the K10 if that is what we want.
We are ABCs trained but have not had any other hands on... which should we request?
Thank you for your help!
Okay do I take the silence as 'nobody has read this...' or 'nobody will comment because they don't like either'? I'm not sure which they will send me so I was wanting to know if I should fight for the K-10 promised or if the Zip will end up being a blessing of the mix up.
If you have any recommendations please let me know.
If those are your two options I would go with the Compak K10 grinder. I have used it a few times and think it would be better over the La Pavoni Zip...I also am a student of ABC...
Hmm..wel, since ive been using tha la pavoni zip..i would recommend it.and so far, its reli good.i havent read the specs of the compak k10..but i think they r juz the same since its same brand..i will read about it so icould compare as wel.
ive seen the compak k10,its kinda small..bur the design is nice, elegant..ands whats fascinating is the doser switch can be in left or right..so its big advantage if ur barista is either L or R...
The biggest difference is the zip is a flat burr grinder and the K-10 is a conical.
What worries me about the K-10 is a strange posting on home-barista.com where a guy had a horrible time with it.
But I have been taught a conical is better then a flat because it allows the coffee to exit the grind chamber faster and easier so the coffee isn't in contact with extra friction that could heat it up and cause a change in flavor by burning it. (See Matt I did listen in class... okay I watch the video again today for the um-tenth time!).
The cafe-in-a crate deals we bought will come with four of these. We could always just resale them in the retail area and buy something different. What would you suggest for everyday use for our espresso grinding?
mahlkonig k30, easy to work, every single dose freshly grounded, has some minor problems comparing to k10(k30 has flat burns etc..) but you need fast and reliable grinder and thats k30, if you use two blends, even better, k30 twin is better than k30, has a fan for cooling on the bottom, works more silent and micro metrical setting for grounding, nice looking, all in all, worth every penny...now depends on what you want
I think we used those in class! Isn't a step grinder? It does look great!
If looking for a conical, stepless... is Mazzer better? (Not as attractive as the Mahlkonig) We used them at ABCs as well... they look like they are the ones being used in most of their videos too (I just can't figure out which models).
You'll see Mazzer grinders in most professional espresso bars. Typically the Major (flat burrs) or Robur (conical). These will be in the busiest places because they have huge motors and burr sets (to keep the heat down). You can get the smaller version of both these: Super Joly (flat) and Kony (conical)
Jason, I just went to your website, WOW! I am really enjoying reading the different blogs. forgive me for not saying more as I wish to return and read more. ~80)
