Buenos dias a todos.

Just wanted to get some input from the roasting community concerning payscale for an apprentice roaster on up to master roaster in the Northern California and Bay Area. I have been living in Mexico the last four years and am considering a move to San Francisco early next year. I have been all over the internet researching this and thought it might be better to go straight to the source. Thanks for any info you can share.

Saludos!

Hey folks, lets smuggle some of those fat luwak cats into the good ol’ US of A! Then we can turn ‘em loose on some of our domestic coffee plants. I bet Jack Nicolson & Morgan Freeman would really go in a big way for a piping-hot cup of Coffee Luwak from Oxnard!
Alun Evans Comment by Alun Evans on January 13, 2009 at 9:30pm
From a roasters point of view who works with Kopi Luwak, I would pass on the tip that the natural oils in the coffee (not the moisture level perse) require some level of delicacy when roasting. Obviously this is especially true due to the cost of the greens involved! From a cupping point of view... I will reserve comment!

Hey Mike!

I buy my Kona & Ka'u beans from Koa Coffee on the Big Island. Visited their operation in June of this year and was pretty impressed. They have one lady that does most/all of their roasting. I don't know if they're looking for anyone, but they might be able to give you some direction if they're not.....

Good luck!

Well the potential volume discount is only part of the equation but in fact that aspect of the "theory" is indeed unproven in my experience. Offering choice is certainly a competitive advantage in mature markets like San Francisco, Portland, and Sea…
