I'm just wondering if anyone has or is using ebay as a distribution channel? it's something I'm considering, I've noticed alot of beans (green and roasted) (aprox 500) listed in the USA but only 3 listings in canada...so it has me thinking...should I jump into ebay here in canada? What is the success rate, does it provide any significant revenues? any problems? Thanks

I've never used ebay, and have no idea how easy or hard it is to get green beans in Canada. Are you planning on using ebay to buy or sale. I just need some clarification. Thanks.

I would love to also hear comments on this. Ebay is 100% not viable for us in Asia, however the NZ equivalent (a site called Trademe) has a number of roasted and green sellers on it. So I am thinking along similar lines for our NZ opperation. I would have thought that using Ebay potentially could weaken the perception of a roaster or trader being quality focused...however in hindsight this might just me my old fashioned views on using a site like this for retail. Any comments on real experiences would be really interesting to read...

I would be using it to sell fresh roasted coffee (in any quantity) and green coffee (in small quantities).

I've never made any money off ebay. I've sold a few things personally. And made a few bucks here and there. But never anything related to coffee. I used to keep a grinder, a espresso, and brewer on there, but never got any real traffic. And they were up at prices that were 15% over my cost and I was getting undersold.

As far as coffee, have fun. I really hope it works out for you.

Its great for exposure I have sold on there for about three years. Don't plan on making any money as there too many selling costs involved and shipping one pound of coffee is very prohibitive. I just pulled my fair trade store last month over 40 varieties listed.

correction, the Hottop does require a cool down time between roasts. We've been using ours for sample roasting. I really wouldn't put more than 1/2 lb at a time.

This is a group for those of us who do not quite fit the mold as just a barista or a shop owner or a roaster.
